Jacksonville will hold its first Halloween celebration, Haunted Downtown Ghostwalk on October 27th, 28th and 29th, in historic downtown Jacksonville.
Saturday, October 29th will feature family activities, self guided tours, a Haunted House, contests, lots of family fun for all ages and the Haunted Downtown Ghostwalk . From Riverwalk Crossing Park, through the downtown area participating businesses will be giving out goodies to trick-or-treaters as well as conducting a scavenger hunt.
The USO Haunted House will be open for visitors all three nights during the event. A community effort to raise funds for Riverworks at Sturgeon City and USO of North Carolina Jacksonville Center. Proceeds from the event will assist in providing funds for the Sturgeon City Education Programs and the holiday dinners provided by the USO to Jacksonville’s Military.
Sturgeon City offers the Street Science program, designed for ages 6-12, which provides exciting hands on experience with science, technology, engineering mathematics and investigation activities that are fun and challenging. The Sturgeon City Institutes are a series of summer programs which target students from eighth grade through high school. This series enhances their knowledge of science, aquaculture, math, forensics, videography, photography, and more.
Each year the USO provides holiday meals for active duty service members, dependents, and retirees. Holiday meals include traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. During Christmas the USO also hosts Breakfast with Santa in which children have the opportunity to visit with Santa and receive a special gift.
